Dunwoody,
GA. (March 28, 2002) - Boy
Scout Troop 477, chartered to Kingwood United Methodist Church, Dunwoody,GA is
pleased to announce the recent Eagle Court of Honor for Joshua Ligon Magaro,
who was officially awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the National Council of
the Boy Scouts of America, January 13, 2002. In recognition of this
outstanding accomplishment, an Eagle Scout Court of Honor was convened on
March 21, 2002 at Kingswood United Methodist Church. Starting as a 5 year old
Tiger Cub at Kingswood, Josh's first experience in scouting was the beginning
of 13 years filled with campouts, hiking, National Jamborees, and development
of an appreciation and respect for the environment.
While only three percent of all boys who enter scouting achieve the
rank of Eagle Scout, Josh joins an impressive group of individuals who are
also Eagle Scouts such as former President Gerald Ford, former U. S. Senator
Sam Nunn, astronaut James Lovell, and director Steven Spielberg.
Because
of Josh's life-long membership at Kingswood UMC, he wanted his Eagle Project
to benefit the church and the people it serves.
Working with Rev. Jimmy Moor and Rev. Carolyn Clifton, Josh decided to
build a new and larger food pantry, which would house a huge variety of canned
goods and other food items. With a team of workers, he designed and
constructed shelving that would support over two hundred pounds of food items
and designed a layout that would make organizing and locating specific items
an easy task for the person helping a family to fill their food needs.
Josh
is a senior at The Lovett School where he is a member of National Honor
Society and has participated in varsity football, track, soccer, lacrosse, FCA,
and band. Also, an active member
of KUMC's youth group, he has participated on mission teams to Jamaica and
Puerto Rico as well as serving in several leadership positions.
Josh is the son of Joe and Terry Magaro.
