Joshua Myles Weiner
Achieves Eagle Scout Rank
|
Dunwoody,
GA. (April 13, 2003) - Boy
Scout Troop 477, chartered to Kingwood United Methodist Church, Dunwoody, GA is
pleased to announce that seventeen year old Joshua Myles Weiner, a
junior at Dunwoody High School, has been awarded the Eagle Scout Rank by the
National Council of the Boy Scouts Of America. Josh is one of over fifty
Eagle Scouts from Troop 477 in its 29 year history. While only three percent
of all boys who enter scouting achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Josh joins
an impressive group of individuals who are also Eagle Scouts such as former
President Gerald Ford, former U. S. Senator Sam Nunn, astronaut James
Lovell, and director Steven Spielberg. Josh's
experience in scouting has caused him to develop an appreciation and respect
for the environment.
Josh's
Eagle Scout Project was an environmental "clean-up" of Keswick
Park where he and 45 other troop members, adult leaders and neighbors
removed 3.2 tons of trash and debris from the creek and surrounding area.
The project also included a beautification of the surrounding park, in which
a bridge was pressure-washed and repainted, and a playground area was
renovated. Josh worked with the Director of Public Works, Tillman
Hannon, at the City of Chamblee who sponsored his project and gave his
support throughout the effort.
Josh
joined Troop 477 in 1997 and has been an active member participating on
camping trips, service projects such as Scouting for Food, and serving in
leadership positions within the troop. Josh has also been chosen to be a
member of the scouting honor society, the “Order of the Arrow”.
Josh
is a member of the Dunwoody Wildcat Marching Band, the Beta Club, National
Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and was the only sophomore to be
chosen for the Governor’s Honors Program from Dunwoody High School. Josh
also plays basketball at the local community center.
