Michael David Fessenden
Achieves Eagle Scout Rank

Dunwoody, GA.  (October, 2008) - Boy Scout Troop 477, chartered to Kingswood United Methodist Church, Dunwoody, GA is pleased to announce that Michael David Fessenden, son of Donna and David Fessenden of Dunwoody, has earned his Eagle Scout Rank.  Michael is the 91st Eagle Scout from Troop 477 in its 36 year history.  While only three percent of all boys who enter scouting achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Michael joins an impressive group of individuals who are also Eagle Scouts such as former President Gerald Ford, former U. S. Senator Sam Nunn, and astronauts Neil Armstrong and James Lovell.

Michael’s Eagle Scout Project consisted of trail improvements on two nature trails at Chamblee First United Methodist Church.  These improvements included mulching each trail, cleaning and weather sealing existing structures, repairing bridges, building and installing three new benches, and hanging bird houses provided by church members.

Michael joined Troop 477 in 2002 and has been an active member participating in many of the troop’s outdoor activities and service projects.  He has held many troop leadership positions, including Senior Patrol Leader, and was chosen by his peers to be a member of Scouting's honor society, the "Order of the Arrow".  One of the highlights for Michael was participating in a high adventure trip to Philmont Scout Ranch’s newest program, Double-H High Adventure Base in Datil, New Mexico.

Michael is a senior at Chamblee High School where he’s a member of the National Science Honor Society, Math team, and cross-country, swim, and track teams.  He is also an active member in Chamblee First United Methodist’s Youth group as well as Young Life.

Michael will be recognized at an Eagle Court of Honor on November 2, 2008 at 3:00PM at Kingswood United Methodist Church.
