Thomas Evans Kelly
Achieves Eagle Scout Rank

Dunwoody, GA (October 29, 2011) – Boy Scout Troop 477, chartered to
Kingswood United Methodist Church, is pleased to announce that Thomas Evans
Kelly, son of Cathie and Bill Kelly of Dunwoody, has earned the rank of
Eagle Scout. Thomas completed his Eagle Board of Review on June 21, 2011.
Thomas is the 100th Eagle Scout from Troop 477 since it was chartered to
Kingswood in 1972.
Thomas’ Eagle Project consisted of installing metal channels, filled with
cork, on the walls of hallways in two different buildings at Brandon Hall
School. The channels provide a place for students to display artwork,
science projects and various other projects assigned by teachers. This
projects benefits Brandon Hall students, faculty and visitors.
Thomas joined Troop 477 in February 2007. Thomas has been an active member
of the troop participating in many of the outdoor activities and service
projects. He has held many Troop leadership positions including Assistant
Senior Patrol Leader, Summer Camp Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader,
Assistant Patrol Leader and Troop Guide. Highlights of Thomas’ Scouting
Adventures include attending the Campout of the Century (Centennial
Celebration) held at Bert Adams in May 2010 and being inducted into The
Order of the Arrow in April 2010.
Thomas has also been involved in the Boy Scouts of America National Youth
Leadership Training Program. Thomas was a participant in 2009 and served on
the Atlanta Area Council Staff as a Team Guide in 2010. Through his home
church, The Cathedral of St. Philip, Thomas completed the God and Church
Program in March 2008.
Thomas is a Senior at Brandon Hall School where he has played JV basketball
for three years and served as Team Captain his Junior year. He also played
on the Varsity tennis team and served as Captain of the Flag Team.
Boy Scout Troop 477 joined Thomas, his family, friends and the Scouting
Community at large, in celebration of his achievement at an Eagle Scout
Court of Honor on October 29, 2011 at Kingswood United Methodist Church.
Guests included five Eagle Scouts in Thomas’ extended family.
